I recommend this book for public school teachers and administrators. It seems to me that the best place to begin is on page 93 which is the Appendix. The title for this section is "Starting an Intergenerational Program." After reading this "how to," the reader should begin with chapter one. As you read the book, you will think of ways that your school and/or classroom could duplicate Glenna's work.
Inspiration to Everyone

Service...or volunteering, as Mrs. Orr calls it, inspires us to think outside ourselves and helps us to find true meaning in life. This is the lesson that Mrs. Orr helps many realize through her intergenerational programs. This collection of memories inspires the reader to remember this truth. It also inspires you to consider the possibilities for service around you. How great would it be if an entire generation could be taught this principle? What impact could it have on our world if the next generation were a "we" and not a "me" generation? A generation that realized that "no man is an island..." As we serve others we realize we have more to give and that we can do more. What a great lesson for every child to learn - I can make a difference now! And what a great message to those who may feel as though they are lost in this world that is so different than the one they remember... I can still make a difference today. Hopefully this book will inspire many more teachers to connect the generations and teach our youth the value of giving of themselves.
