A Strong Entry In The Wilderness Series

Wilderness # 58 - Cry Freedom & # 59 - Only The Strong By David Thompson - Genre: Western This story is spread over two books so I'm reviewing it in one go (saves my typing fingers!!). The Worth family are black slaves on the run from their owners after the father, Samuel, accidentally kills a man who is about to harm his daughter Randa and together with his wife Emala and son Chickory the four of them head towards the imagined safety of the wilderness of the Rockies. Nate & Winona King on the way to St. Louis encounter the family and Winona gets Nate to help them on their journey, Nate does so burt with reservations, he thinks the Worth's are hiding something from them. What follows is an excellent tale which includes two sets of slave hunters, untold wilderness dangers from man, beast and the elements, kidnapping, being set-a-foot and much, much more. Bags of action as usual, great dialogue with some funny moments, great character's and an excellent plot, another great pair of books in the series, well worth hunting out !!

Gripping Action!

ONLY THE STRONG, is an appropriate title for the continuing saga of the Worth's journey towards freedom begun in the WILDERNESS novel CRY FREEDOM. Even with the Nate King, an experienced Frontiersman as your guide, only the strong will survive. Granted the Worths had more incentive than most folks to go west to the uncharted territories where a man could live free with his family than most, but still were quite unprepared for all the dangers they were about to face. Would the slave hunters retreat after their earlier encounter with the Kings in Cry Freedom? There was a huge bounty on the heads of the Worths. Somebody was going to pay for the murder of their master. Revenge fueled greed! Tender moments, to dangerous encounters, to life and death situations on their way to a new home. The odds aren't even. Unbeknown to the Kings, an army of two-legged wolves were on their heels and planned to get even! As always, David Thompson is a stellar storyteller. Great read with gripping action!!!

Nate and Winona kick butt again!!

In this sequel to Cry Freedom, two surviving slave catchers Wesley and Trumbo, who haven't learhed their lesson the last time they tried to mess with Nate and Winona, round up a gang of killers to avenge their comrades and capture the slave family the Worths, so they could collect the $5,000 bounty on them. These men are not just slave catchers, but the worst racists ever. Which explains why they are slow learners, add the love of money to it and the fact that they don't believe in God, makes it an even deadlier and unintelligent mixture. But hey God don't like ugly and like the Bible says, "You reap what you sow." That's when Nate and Winona come in. They show these atheist slave catching savages the error of their ways! Keep up the good work Mr. Thompson, of all the series I have read, the Wilderness is the best western series ever.
