This is the story of "Giff Jacobs," a disgraced ex-cop, who after his release from prison on parole attempts to find and bring to justice the drug dealers who framed him so that he can restore his good name and get back his life. To do this, Giff applies for work as a bartender at the restaurant which he suspects is the current front for the drug dealers. Roxie Lowell is the manager of that restaurant, and as the story progresses both she and Giff gradually establish trust in each other. Though apparently terribly mismatched, they are definitely attracted to each other, and fall in love.So far, so good. But the story does not end there. It is filled with tension and suspense not only with respect to the dangers inherent in trying to catch a bunch of ruthless criminals, but also as Giff falls deeply in love with Roxie and seeks to protect her by exiting her life. The book held my interest throughout and the ending was happily very satisfying.I was fortunate to find this book at a used book store, and now can't wait to read other novels by Pat Warren. I recommend this book very highly.
