Wonderful!

I read this book after finishing the author's "Here If You Need Me." I so enjoyed her refreshingly sincere, soul-bearing writing, that I had to have more. This book does not dissappoint! It is a novel, but it seems so much like a memoir. The main character, Ellen, is intensely real, and so easy to identify with. This is not easily found in fiction. I enjoyed every minute of it, and hope that Kate writes more. I plan to give "Onion" to my daughter; she has a newborn, and I know she will laugh at all the mothering jokes in it. I know it will underline her knowledge that marriage is a sacred union.

Deserves better reviews!

I read this about 10 years ago, and loved it. Yes, there are parts that are dense (or at least that seemed so to my 16-year old self at the time), but much of the book is intelligent, toughing, and funny, and there are several beautiful scenes have stayed with me for years. I'm glad to see someone else has read it!

Hilarious, moving, redemptive

WHY did this brilliant work not make it onto the literary radar screen? I suspect it has to do with the subject; mothers and babies are not hip or rad, but this is a story about an epifany (sp?) that every woman, and quite a few men would love and identify with. WELL WORTH an out-of-print searchh.
