Inspiring reading

This book is as cozy as a long, intimate conversation with a group of good friends. Written in short chapters, it gives a peek into Christmases past of a group of diverse women. I enjoyed it very much!

Wonderful Christmas Gift for the Women In Your Life

Beautiful cover. Beautiful content. Janice Chaffee's introduction pulled me into a Christmas delight. Diverse women with differing traditions and celebrations share their thoughts on Christmas. I loved it. What delighted me even more was the sound of the CD with the same name playing in the background as I curled up on the couch and caught the Christmas spirit.

Janice Chaffee's lovely book of stories, One Silent Night, captures the essence of the Christmas season -- through the eyes of seventeen women of various backgrounds, races, economic levels, and life experiences. Janice has done a wonderful job of giving readers tender, realistic stories of Christmas without resorting to trite sentimentality. These are stories of REAL women! This volume, along with its companion CD of the same name would make a great gift this season. Good work Janice! This reader hopes to see more from you.

This is a book for reading at your leisure. You can pick up one chapter at a time and read about different women who share one of their most memorable stories of Christmas. Some are women we've heard of and know about and others are walking in much the same places we are in our lives. This book is a mixture of happiness, struggles, sorrow and the joy of Christmas. One thing is for certain; each woman, no matter what the circumstance, focuses on the true meaning of Christmas, the Baby born in Bethlehem. I love stories that dig through the superficiality and commercialism of Christmas and get to the heart of what really happened one silent night. This book does that! The stories in this book will take you to mountaintops and valleys and into the hearts of 17 women. The birth of a king is the connecting thread in all their journeys. This book is multi-generational so grandmothers as well as teenagers will want to read this. There's a CD that goes with it that's wonderful too....a nice gift package for someone!
