Best written History of Chincoteague.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have family on Chincoteague and was amazed at the number of people in the book that I knew. I felt that the research was very good. Good job!!!

Not Just Another Pretty Picture Book

This book is not just another collection of essays and sepia pictures about a local landmark or town. Kirk Mariner's review is a thoughtful and thorough history of a small island community - as thorough as one can be when natural history and the lack of written records affect the narrative as often as it does Chincoteague. I was fascinated to read the stories behind the names I heard as a child and to see how much my home has changed just in the time since I grew up there in the sixties. I grew up hearing many stories about the towns of Assateague and Chincoteague and the colorful people who lived in them. Chincoteague was a wonderful place in which to grow up and Rev. Mariner has done an excellent job in telling its stories. More, please!
