Talk about the power of one :)

Caroline has moved into her new home, on the optimistically named "Meadowview Street". (There's no meadow, and not much view.) However, she notices a wildflower in her yard and quickly makes a small wildflower preserve... which grows, and grows, eventually including trees and a pond. As it grows, it becomes attractive to wildlife, and her neighbors are all taken in and make their own meadows. It's a pretty book, and the message isn't as anvilicious as it might be. You know what it reminds me off, oddly? Weslandia, about a boy whose summer project changes his classmates.

Bringing wildlife to your doorstep

This is a delightful book about a young girl, Caroline, who discovers after protecting a single flower in her front yard, that there are many more to protect. Quickly, she, with the support of her family, works to develop an habitat for many creatures - birds, insects, etc. This book shows that even a child can make a substantial difference in the world around her/him, and that children can make a positive environmental impact. The illustrations are charming and the writing clear and concise. I highly recommend this book for any children interested in environmental issues.

Adore this book!

This book is such an awesome reminder of natures beauty, and how we all can contribute to protecting even the smallest living thing! This little girl saves a flower, and with the support of her father and then her mother she goes on to create an awesome backyard full of juicy aliveness! My four yr. old loves this book and so do I. A very heartwarming journey I highly recommend it. I always have a happy sigh after reading it.

Creating a natural backyard habitat?

The story shows how it's okay to do something different and/or non-conventional, like saving a wildflower in your yard and turning your yard into a meadow. This book is a sweet story, but it's an especially wonderful book to illustrate the value of creating an outdoor habitat in your yard. I got one for my children (5-7 yrs) and I also got one for my friend that has just started developing her outdoor habitat, the book confirms that a change in your yard can bring such pleasure to you, your neighbors and the creatures that live there.
