We just came back from a week in the vicinity of Joshua Tree National Park. We took hikes 5 days out of the 7 in the Park based on Patty Furbush's excellent suggestions. We took easy to moderately strenuous hikes that would be max 5 hours roundtrip. (We are relatively slow walkers because we stop and look a lot). Hers proved an invaluable guide. The maps and descriptions were accurate. This and the National Geographic Joshua Tree Trails Illustrated #226 Map are what I consider to be essential for a trip involving hiking in this area.

This book is a must have for any hiker in Joshua Tree National Park. It has hike descriptions and maps that let you plan in advance where you want to hike. I have used it extensively while hiking the backcountry trails on photographic research expeditions for my Joshua Tree webpages.I recommend this guide to anyone who will be visiting the park and wants to take a hike!bob@bobulrich.com
