Bright and Early Books are perfect for beginning beginner readers Launched by Dr. Seuss in 1968 with The Foot Book, Bright and Early Books use fewer and easier words than Beginner Books. Readers just starting to recognize words and sound out letters will love these short books with colorful illustrations.
Every time the English-as-a-second-language textbook gives a lesson on adjectives, I use this book as a supplement. The kids enjoy it and find it amusing.
Old Hat New Hat, one of my favorite-ever children's books!

This is a book which has 'few words on a page' so a child won't be BORED or distracted with a large amount of verbage. The pictures on each page (which are descriptive and wonderful) help to convey the overall message of the book. I bought Old Hat New Hat when my son was very young - and over the years we read it hundreds and hundreds of times. I am still buying this book for children and grandchildren of friends of mine! And recommend it without hesitation!!
My almost-2-yr-old loves it!

I got this book from the library when my daughter was 22 months old. She loved it immediately and asked me to read it 5 times in a row! We have other Dr. Seuss books but somehow she likes this one most. Now she is 23 months old and she "reads" this book by herself. Great book and I recommend it for children under 2.
The first book my son "read"
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 22 years ago
This is the first book my then 2 year old son "read" all by himself & I've captured it on video which he watches with delight. He must have been so proud of himself he later went on to read independently by 3. He's now 5 and reading Dick King-Smith and The Magic Tree House books and Wayside School stories and World Book entries and anything he lays his hands on. It's about a bear with a tatty hat who goes into a store to buy a new hat. The salesman shows him many hats which he rejects as being too big, too small, too flat, too tall, etc. It's a great way to introduce adjectives and rhyme and improve memory and boost confidence too. It comes with a surprise ending too. it's a very simple book, but perhaps that's the beauty of it - that it can do so much with so little.

When my children were little they loved this book. Over the years there have been many occasions that have spured someone to recall the title of this beloved story. It always brings a smile to our faces. I have since purchased other copies for my grandchildren.
