A beautifully illustrated, moving tale of a pet's place in family life is told from the point of view of the master's pet cat and is illustrated in color throughout. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I purchased this book when my cats were quite young and long before I had children. The illustrations are subtle pastels with great detail and everytime I pull it out to read I end up in tears. The book has always stood on my bookshelves and one day my children have expressed curiousity about it. We sat down and read it as a family and afterwards with great insight my son asked if I was worried about Fiona because he was worried about her. After her death they wanted to read it again as a celebration of her life and the the lives of our other much loved cats.

I bought this book for my parents when their cat grew older. Since then the book has passed hands among the family several time as we all have had our dear pets grow older. This book pays great honor to our special fur friends that mean so much to us. Buy it and read it to your aging cat why she is still with you. Read it again after she is gone.

Yes, I'm an adult, and I bought a children's book for myself, and I cherish it. If you have or ever have had an old cat, you need this book. Barbara Libby gets old cats and their people like nobody else. Well worth the $1.99 +$4 shipping. It makes me cry every time I read the last page.
My old cats

In 1994 I lost a wonderful cat, Dudley. It was a very sad time and to help get my mind busy I took a ride. During that day, as I made frequent stops, I came across Barbara Libby's book, OLD CAT. As I read, I cried. I re-dedicated the book to Dudley, wrote some thoughts inside and taped a few pictures on pages that seemed to be specifically about my old friend. Several weeks later a two month old kitten was found at the animal shelter and brought home. He was named Moe. Inside OLD CAT I dedicated a page to him, stating that we would love him, but he had some big paws to fill. Today Moe is 13 years old, diabetic, losing his teeth, and dealing with poor kidneys, but he has brought us all the love that Dudley had for so many years. I took the book out this morning and, once again, it grabbed my heart. Knowing that my old cat Moe is ailing and may not be with us much longer brought the tears. The author of OLD CAT must have been touched by a special cat, as I have been-twice. Thanks to Barbara Libby for sharing her heart and soul in OLD CAT.
A sad and yet delightful revisit to an old pet

This is a book written in 2 voices, the cat's and the owner's. The cat's thoughts, in italics, tell of advancing age while reveling in memories of the field mouse caught and squirrel chased. The owners thoughts conclude on the joy of purring. As always, the cat has the last word and says you might get a new cat who will be a friend "though maybe not as good a friend as I". It touched me when I was losing my 23.5 year old kitty. It can do the same for you. An invaluable aid when losing an old friend. It'll make you cry, but our pals are worth crying over!
