My daughter had to read this book as part of a writing assignment for her middle school language arts class. She loved the book, especially since, as a culminating activity, the author came to visit her school. Even though this is a picture book, the message of tolerance and understanding applies to everyone.

Ol'Lady Grizelda is a funny story which my 5 year old daughter askes my to read over and over again. Grizelda is someone that a young person can relate to and an adult can admire. The illustrations are perfect for the story and enjoyable each time I read this to my daughter. We both laugh together when reading this story.
Wonderful read aloud at schools or at bed time!

Told with rhyme in presenting a "mysterious" older lady, Ol' Lady Grizelda gives us a delightful story. As a school Library/Media Specialist, I think this book is wonderful for reading aloud. We learn along with the main character that looking at people from afar is not always a true picture. We come to really like and appreciate this older lady. You will too!
A great read for "children" of any age.

Although Ol' Lady Grizelda is a children's book, our 9th grade English teachers are using it to compare/contrast with To Kill A Mockingbird. Children feared and fantasized about Grizelda very much like the children did with Boo Radley. This book presents a powerful theme with a little twist. The author visited our school, and our students found him facinating. He admits that he is just a little "Grizelda" as well. We loved it!
A treasure. The illustrations are fabulous.

As an elementary school teacher, I was given this book as a birthday present. I was completely delighted and touched by this sweet story of understanding and tolerance. It took a bit of practice to read it aloud with fluency, but my students loved listening to it when I finally got the rhythm. A wonderful book with a great message. Perfect for any age.
