Oki's Island

Kenny Kemp's, "Oki's Island" is a short and delightful look at man's never-ending desire to explore. It reminded me of the many times in my life, before career and other demands, when I would take road trips through the deserts or mountains off of the highways and beaten paths, often stopping to listen to the peace and quiet of the surroundings and my imaginations. I found myself wanting to leave for a while, get back into my car - or canoe - and go where the dolphins, or small roads, would take me. I highly recommend "Oki's Island" - with a smile.

A realisitc explanantion!

Today I gave this book to my brother. For a long time he hasn't understood where I was at on my spiritual journey, and this book gives me hope of communicating not only with him, but other family and friends. It's really hard when one is moving forward, and one cannot explain why one needs to take the journey. I thought I was "religious", but it turned out that I am more "spiritual". Like Jonathan Livingston Seagull many years ago, Oki's Island is about embarking on the soul's most important journeyto find God, and how lonely that can be, if not for the company of God himself. Oki finds God in a very real, useable way, and now I'm excited about getting back into my canoe. You've got to have this one... It's the best money spent on a book in a long while, even if you do choose to stay on your Island at the end.
