Can you please take a moment to pause and read the passage from 1 Kings 17:8-24? Imagine yourself being present in that situation. Try to imagine you are the woman in such a situation. Truth is that at times, we often approach reading the Bible in an overly serious manner and fail to remember that the individuals portrayed or featured within the pages of the Bible, were regular people like ourselves. They possessed aspirations and goals; they held convictions and uncertainties; they encountered happiness and endured sadness; they endured genuine suffering; they were uncertain about the future. Try to envision the immense pain and distress that this woman must be experiencing. In addition to experiencing deep sorrow over her husband's death, she now had to confront the grim reality that both she and her son would also pass away. It was impossible to deny the desperate condition she was in. How can the situation possibly deteriorate further? How can life become bleaker? She had confronted the certainty of their impending downfall. She would use the small amount of flour and remaining oil in her possession to make a small cake, collect some sticks, share this last meal with her son, and then prepare to rest eternally.
However, unbeknownst to her, God had decided to bless her with the beautiful essence of life. God had predetermined that she would be part of something even more amazing than anything her shattered heart could have ever conceived.
