The newly begun Civil War is only one more complication in the lives of Bridget's family in which everyone seems talented--except Bridget. This description may be from another edition of this product.
This was one of my all time favorite books growing up. I recently purchased it and found it to be just as good as I remembered. It is a prequel to "A Striving After Wind." The story is set in New Jersey during the beginning stages of the US Civil War. Bridget, the heroine, is the middle daughter, raised with five talented siblings by two artistic and successful parents. At first, Bridget believes she has nothing to contribute, as her artistic talents aren't as obvious as her siblings'. As she grows up, she realizes her special place in her family and her community. And there's a nice little romance thrown in! Don't be afraid of the allusions to famous poems and plays--they are easy to understand and really add to the story. Truly, one of my favorite books.
