Will help you pass, but it won't be easy....

Don't kid yourself. The 1Z0-031 is not an easy test, but reading this book helped me pass the test. If you are new to the profession, like me, then this book alone will not be enough. I read this book once, understood MOST of what I read and then tried the test and failed. I then took an Oracle DBA class at a Community College and read two other books titled "Oracle 8i DBA Bible" and "Oracle 9i DBA Handbook". I also read Biju Thomas' book one more time, fully understood it and then I was able to pass the test. I highly recommend this book. I feel that if you can read and understand 99-100% of what Biju Thomas writes in "OCA/OCP: Oracle 9i DBA Fundamentals I" then you can pass the Oracle Exam. I also would not attempt the Exam without reading this book at least once.

Very good for exam preparation

I found this book very helpful for my OCA exams. I passed my first 2 exams for Oracle DBA with 98% and 86% refering to this book (along with some other reference materials). The exercises and the tests in this book gave a very good picture of the real exam and were very similar to it. But I wouldn't advise on relying completely on this book.Some other reference is necessary.

Excellent book to pass the exam

It worked pretty well for me: I passed the exam with a score of 91.7%, using only this book. It is perfect to prepare for the exam; you just have to learn every single byte of information.I've found the exercises very similar to those the real exam poses.Thanks Sybex SO much!Mark

Great Reference!

The figures and quizzes are definitely the best part of this book. It's very well written and easy to follow, however, just as with any certification, I suggest supplimenting it with a training course, or real world experience. I'm currently enrolled in an Oracle9i DBA cert course, and I'm planning on taking this test by the end of May (2002)...at that time I'll be better equipped to write a more applicable review. For now, i give it 4/5 stars, missing the 5th star because it's not the kind of text that will guarantee you an 'A' on the test...but that's probably for the best...Oracle does it right, making sure their certifications are not easily obtained by those w/o real world experience.EDIT: took the test, got an 80% on the basic section and an 80% on the mastery section, so all in all, i must say, this book did a great job preparing me. i borrowed the equivalent from oracle press, and was dissatisifed.

Excellent Preparation

I read the book and passed the test on my first attempt. I did not find any errors like those found in the Oracle Press 9i exam prep books. All the topics were covered. The CD-ROM exams and flash cards were a big help. Overall, excellent test preparation.
