The best for the layperson

Absolutely the best conceptual guide to the object-oriented revolution of the '90's ever produced. This book will not teach you to be a professional programmer, nor will it teach you about the later developments in this area (patterns, domain structures) but for a person who wants to understand the concepts and the importance of a particular way of thinking about software, this is one great milestone book.
