enters new approach to old problems

Ever since someone coined "Reaganomics" to refer to President Ronald Reagan's economic policies, it has become standard practice to attach "-nomics" to nearly every noun. This book - Obamanomics - is similarly a reference to President Obama's economic policies. The author of the book strongly believes that the USA is "a country, founded on equality, liberty, justice and opportunity for all, that is slowly devolving into an unjust class society where life success is based more on inherited position and connections than individual effort and merit" ( p. 9). Elaborating on a further belief that "all our problems are a result of a few fundamental errors our country has made that can be corrected," the book looks at what Obama's economic policies offer problem-solving. It outlines Obama's core beliefs, approach, and the "magnitude and scope of [the] problems" his administration confronts. A fine attempt as the Introduction alone makes good independent reading, and the bulk of the book is even more fascinating. The author is clearly an admirer of Obama. However, the story he tells is a real one and he tells it in a convincing manner. I strongly recommend this book. Great book for the liberals!

I thought this book was fascinating! It revealed so much about politics that I never really paid attention to, especially lobbying. I'm sure I was really into the book because it just reminded me why I'm a democrat and why certain issues can't be fixed with a republican in office. With that said, if you're a republican, you are sure to hate this book!

The Economics of Common Sense

This is perhaps the best summary of the issues facing America today - economic and political - that has ever been assembled in one place. The writing is concise, factual and well researched on a variety of topics - ranging from the current financial melt-down, to the cost and availability of healthcare, to the looming social security crunch. The analysis is crisp and logical, similar in style to "Freakonomics" by Levitt and Dubner. And while Obama's positions are indicated, the underlying text would stand on its own without it. To some extent, the "Obamanomics" title is a pretext for a work of much larger importance. While easy to digest, the simple fact that so many problems of immense proportions face the country is quite daunting and a little depressing. This book should be required reading for every student, politician and Republican. These problems have been addressed by other nations whose resources are far more limited - why not in America?

An Excellent Synopsis of Obama's Economic Plan

This book helped me to understand what Obama's economic plans are, and how they would play out in the real world. The author gives an easily understandable synopsis of Obama's stand on affordable healthcare, renewable energy, social security, and much more. Most importantly, the book deals with how we can manage the housing crisis, and how the average American can have a better shot at the middle class. I feel far more informed, and better able to get fully behind Obama after reading this book.

Excellent Overview

This book presents an excellent overview of Obama's "bottom-up" economic policy. The author explains how current economic policies are hurting our economy, especially our hard-working middle class. Talbott presents Obama's economic policy in a way that lay people can understand, covering the current financial crisis, how globalization is affecting the American worker, the effect of global warming, and the need for affordable health care for the American citizen. Talbott's book details what Obama plans to do in order to deal with these problems. Talbott also addresses the detrimental effects of corporate lobbying and how it is one of the primary causes of many of the major problems in the country. The author states "The concept that a corporation is a "person" entitled to the rights of persons, such as the right to seek an audience with elected officials, violates any conception of what the founding fathers meant by individual rights." After reading this straightforward, no nonsense book on Obama's plans to boost the economy any Republican, Independent, or Democrat will come away with a sense that our economic problems can be solved if we, as a country, are willing to make the necessary changes. The book is a quick read and well worth the time spent doing so.
