The work focuses on the Ilyushin IL-2 Shturmovik and its developments throughout the war, and relies on other aircraft designers in order to give an overall image. This research work has required three generations to complete. The first generation wrote the story; the second generation collected and kept such documents and the third generation searched for, compiled, verified with Russian and foreign sources and put into this research work, translating it from Russian to Spanish, and from Spanish to English. To carry out this extensive and precise work, more than 25,000 official documents from the archives of the Russian Federation and Germany have been translated, hoping that the vast amount of data being published for the first time in the West can improve to understand the Soviet aircraft industry during this period of time.
