An inspirational story of how to change the world one heart at a time

Cindy Sheehan like her son Casey, has taken up the cause to fight for America yet in peaceful way. This book chronicles her inspirational journey as a grieving mother of a fallen soldier to a passionate freedom fighter for peace. Cindy's fight for her son Casey and more importantly military families with loved ones in Iraq helps us see that the most patriotic thing you can do for the troops and this country is to make sure that they come home safe to their families.

Moral Avenger

Once in awhile a public figure arises in the U.S. who has the courage to stand up and speak the truth, whatever the personal cost to themselves. Cindy Sheehan does this in clear, direct prose throughout this book. This is an absolutely uncompromising, clear-headed but passionate, critique of the fundamental failures of the Bush administration to justify the unconstitutional, preemptive war against Iraq. Cindy Sheehan, who rose from obscurity to become a public figure after her son was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, pulls absolutely no punches in deeming the President and his top aides war criminals, liars and morally corrupt political figures. As she shows, all they offer to justify the blood on their hands are smoke and mirrors. She condemns as well the cowardice of most members of Congress, the sycophancy of the mainstream press and the political sloth of the American public, who allow the killing in Iraq to continue and our troops to be sacrificed for no good reason. She also makes it clear that if the war was a mistake, the only remedy is to admit it and get out of Iraq. Especially of interest is her day-to-day chronicle of the month of August, 2005, she spent in Crawford waiting for a meeting that never happened with President Bush. That was when Cindy Sheehan became a national leader of the anti-war movement. Her response to the media interest as well as to the vituperation heaped upon her by pro-Bush commentators show the immense character of this amazing woman. Also of interest to anyone considering enlisting in the U.S. military are the details Cindy Sheehan provides of the lies told and and false promises made by military recruiters to get the human fuel for Donald Rumsfeld's war machine. And, once in, it is difficult to get out at the end of the contract period. Using "Stop-Loss" as a bludgeon, the choice is to re-enlist and get a bonus payment or don't re-enlist and get enslaved. Any parent whose son or daughter is considering entering the military during the Bush presidency should give them a copy of this book.

Inspiring

Cindy made the ultimate sacrifice for the country: a mother's loss of a son. After this tragic episode, she started a courageous journey across the land to find the truth and the real reasons underlying the war that led to the death of Casey. She has inspired millions of Americans to join her in seeking this truth. Her book depicts in a very clear and inspiring way many aspects of her tribulations and success stories. It is a must read for those of us who still believe in the real essence of freedom and democracy.

Great book

What Cindy has done is give Americans everywhere the courage to stand up and say this war is wrong, that Bush and his administration are wrong. She has taught us that we can love the soldier and hate the war. This book and the contents of it give us a perspective on war, the human cost of war, that we will not find anywhere else. Priceless. This is also a great historical perspective, the story of a woman who was able to give power to the peace movement. [...]

Chickenhawks

probably don't like this book much, but I appreciate the author's perspective. Heaven forbid I am every put in the position to tell her,or anyone else who has lost a child, 'I know how you feel'. Worth a read. I donated mine to the local public library when I was done.
