Beautiful Publication. Valuable Review of Nordic Art.
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
The publication quality itself is very high, and even more so considering the context of its 1988 publication date. Color tone of the images is very good so it's easy to appreciate each artist's unique viewpoint. Most important is the quality of writing and well researched history that is presented. Intelligent, readable, and fluid. Placed in proper context of political challenges, changing social life, and aesthetic trends, one sees that artists of these most Northern European countries were open to new ideas in art, yet are distinct and independent in their interpretations and applications of techniques and theories. This independence is clear when seeing the variety of styles and points of view represented by the different artists well selected for this book. There may be familiar influences of technique, but always careful study of the unique Nordic environments, landscapes. The pulse is different. The rhythms are different. The Light is different.
