Move over Dr. Seuss....

...Eschbacher and Johnson have arrived. This is the perfect book to buy for your little niece or nephew. It will fill many wonderful days and nights with the joy of rhymes. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for this wonderful little book--and please bring out a sequel!

The perfect fun-time bedtime book

Mr. Eschbacher and Mr. Johnson have teamed up to deliver a wildly creative and imaginative children's book that truly lives up to its title, Nonsense! He Yelled. Chock full of silly, nonsensical rhymes and hilarious illustrations, Nonsense! He Yelled introduces 26 quite unique boys and girls whose names just happen to begin with each consecutive letter of the alphabet. While their names follow a logical pattern, their descriptions of the themselves or their circumstances are anything but. For example, representing the letter "K" is Kyle, who finds himself keeping cautious company with a crocodile who has come all the way from the Nile to visit. "He claims he did so just to meet me, but I suspect he'd rather eat me," Kyle nervously reports. The author and illustrator recall the literary style of Dr. Seuss and the visual style of Bugs Bunny creator Chuck Jones. The combination is a winning one and I found my children laughing as much at Mr. Johnson's illustrations as they did listening to Mr. Eschbacher's silly verse. With any children's book, the reactions of the children who read or hear it is the ultimate proof of whether a title has hit its mark. In the case of Nonsense! He Yelled, the reaction of my kids indicate it's an out-of-the-park home run. You'll have as much fun reading it to your kids as they will listening to it.

Highly recommend for any child

Those professional book reviewers missed the point. They looked at Nonsense! as the wise adults that they are. But through the eyes of a child, all the silliness makes perfect sense! Best of all, it helps teach them the alphabet better than any book I've ever seen.

Fun For Kids AND Adults

As a Uncle and Godfather to 6 kids, I've read a lot of children's books over and over and over again. Some are just plain deadly. You begin to fear storybook time. "Nonsense! He Yelled." is a pleasent antidote to those type of books. My godkids loved it, and I still found it enjoyable after multiple readings."Nonsense!" is a clever journey through the alphabet, where kids begin by meeting Art and Bob, then 24 more kids up to and including Yat and Zerk (I was kind of expecting X to be Xena, Warrior Princess, but it turned out to be Xerk, "who gets paid to lurk"). Each character has their own amusing story and rhyme and are creatively illustrated by Adrian Johnson. The book encourages interactive participation by asking the reader to use their own name in rhyme, a great little activity that adds to the enjoyment of the book (though can delay bedtime as everyone in the family HAS to have their names rhymed, according to my niece!).The text is funny and non-violent, and even though 25 of the 26 characters introduced were male (Only Nell cracked the otherwise all boy alphabet) my niece enjoyed it just as much as my nephew. This is a safe, enjoyable addition to the kid's bookshelf that helps kids become more familiar with the alphabet, socializes them to the idea that there are a great many different kinds of kids in the world, gives them a bit of a creative challenge and is painless for adults, who can be expected to be asked to read it over and over and over and...

Imaginative and stylish!

I just received my copy of the book and was very pleased! It has become my two year old son and my six year old daughter's favorite book! They love the rhymes and the creative illustrations. I like this book because it is different from any other book i've read. It's kind of Dr. Suess meets Tim Burton. We read a lot so it is refreshing to find a childrens book that pleases the rugrats and the parents.
