Read with Me is a series of reading books designed to develop the confidence of young children between the ages of 5 and 7. Using well-known Bible stories, the entertaining texts complement the... This description may be from another edition of this product.
There are many versions of Noah and the Ark. As a children's librarian in a small Catholic school, I have acquired several. I like them all, but if forced to pick a favorite, this one is it. Let me count the reasons: 1. On the back cover the authors/publisher lists their ten reasons for selecting this version. My list will contain some of their reasons, then marked by asterisks, 2. Bright, attractive illustrations, including the cover, 3. A look-find activity described next to the title page (the beginning reader looks for a hammer from Noah's day--children love to find this hammer--some in easy places, some harder), 4. The use of a Bible story itself in building reading skills, 5. One of my fun favorites: the use of book titles used by the biblical characters in their various endeavors; Examples: Ark Building for Beginners, Zoo-Keeping for Absolute Beginners, Weather Forecasting, Leaf Recognition Made Easy, An ABC of Vineyard Planting, 6. How much the Noah and the ark of this book look like Steve Carrell and his ark of the movie (don't ask me), 7. The fun variety of animals for children to identify (you need to know ahead of time because not just typical animals are included), 8. *The fun rhyming patterns on every page that children love, 9. The educational activities in the last few pages, including: * Rearranging pictures to get the chronological order right (a required activity on national tests), * A Picture Dictionary, * Key Words with illustrations, * Making a Rainbow Cake (using a store-bought one) * Discussion about the story with information for the parent/teacher 10. *Colored background for the print (makes it easier for dyslexics to focus on the words) And there you have it--reasons for acquiring this "Noah and the Ark" for your special little one. Besides, it is a great story.
