I read this book long before I saw the Grizzly Man documentary/series on TV, so I figured that guy was a little bit of a loon (I was not at all surprised by his tragic end). "No Room For Bears" gives the reader a realistic view of the nature of bears. They aren't fuzzy, cuddly pets that you should hand feed and try to befriend. Rather, they are wild, dangerous and often unpredictable animals that are better left alone (for their protection and yours). The book is fascinating; you'll probably want to read it more than once.
Respect and Fear in Alaska
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 24 years ago
I read this first hand account of the nature and individual personalities of the Alaskan Brown Bear as a young teenager, and it left an indelible mark on my ecological psyche. Mr. Dufresne's writing and stories are captivating, and you don't doubt for a moment the authenticity of each tale. My parents bought this book for my library, and I read it over and over (particularly the story about the 25th Bear). If you want to gain a new respect for non-humans as well as humans, don't miss this one!
