hilarious look at theatrical performers on the road

Harold J. Kennedy directed, as he states in his title, everyone from Tallulah Bankhead to John Travolta, and he seems to have some very funny stories about every one. The title "No pickle, no performance" is in fact a quote from Renee Taylor, who played Fran's mom on "The Nanny." There are some wonderful tales in this book, one of my favorites being about Ginger Rogers touring in "Bell, Book & Candle" - with her businessman husband as her costar; a man explaining to Kennedy how Constance Bennett saved his life; Rita Gam's crucial question during a rushed session of notes before opening; many others. For theater lovers, movie lovers, and nostalgia lovers, this book is a must.
