Practical but Fun Primer on Navigating Unemployment

No Job, No Prob! is an informative, helpful and fun book about navigating times when you are out of work. Nigro provides information about the basics such as filing for unemployment, finding your next job and dealing with the loss of income. However, what he puts in lots of stuff about making the most of what can be a dreary, depressing time, such as "Twenty Sites to Sample on the Internet" and "Twenty Films that will Lift Your Spirits". He also throws in a couple of frivilous but funny ideas like "Ten Ways to Modify Your Old Work Clothes." I liked this book a lot. I loved the friendly, helpful and fun tone the author used. He provides some great tips and solid information but in an easy-to-read format and engaging manner. I loved the "fun" stuff in the book, because I think that keeping one's spirits up is always a good idea but very difficult to do if you find yourself jobless, especially in this economy. However, some people might not enjoy the light-hearted approach. I do think it might be easy to focus on the fun and forget the job hunting, which could be risky. I really loved his making money without a job ideas. I started my business five years ago when I was unemployed, so I'm a big believer in using unemployment to propel you toward your dreams. Nigro provides great catalyst information on how to do that in this book.

Ya gotta have a sense of humor in this world...

We need to laugh more than ever in these troubled times. This book provides more than a few chuckles while also offering practical advice about dealing with being unemployed. The question is, will an out of work person spend money on a book? The publisher may not like this idea, but I'm sure the writer won't mind (after all, it's about the art, not the money, eh?): if putting food on the table takes priority, borrow this tome from your local library. It's worth reading. In this age where people are losing their senses of subtlety and irony at an alarming rate, I would advise you that the author's tongue seems permanently in cheek for much of the book. Not that it doesn't have valid ideas throughout. It does, but is also intended to entertain. And it does that, too. The author's prose style is, shall we say, singular. He was obviously amusing himself during the creative process and hopes we are similarly amused. Either that or he is channeling an 18th century British fop and a 1950s Greenwich Village hep cat. Whatever his motive and whatever his mental state, you will laugh and you will learn. And that combo makes for a pleasant read.
