No. 6 Volume 2 (Rat and Shion Find a Reason to Live)

Rat and Shion are back once again. Shion is alive thanks to Rat. Unfortunately, surviving comes with a price. Shion’s hair color changed from brown to white and his eyes from brown to red, not to mention the red snake wound wrapped around Shion’s body. Shion wants to give the people living inside No. 6 a second chance by creating a serum from Shion’s blood. Rat is against Shion’s decision. But Rat discusses how much it meant to him that night that Shion saved Rat’s life. Meanwhile, inside No. 6, Karan receives Rat’s messages about Shion and updates on their situation. Karan tips Rat off with news about someone in the West District (Latch Building) who might help them. It melts my heart when Shion helps a little girl named Karan save her brother’s life, Rico. Rat might not admit it, but I think it also melted his heart. Unfortunately, Shion is a little bit of an airhead and falls into the hands of a prostitute. Rat rescues his “lover” from the woman’s grasp. Shion decides to take Rat’s advice and stand up for himself in this book. But Rat figures that if Shion stands up for No. 6, Shion will be his enemy. Rat and Shion meet Dogkeeper and her dogs. Dogkeeper is a little stunned as to why Rat keeps such an airhead close to him, but Dogkeeper gives them the information on the man they are looking for, Rikiga. Rat, Shion, and Rikiga discuss their business after saving Rikiga from an aggressive ex. Rikiga suggests that Rat should sell his body to No. 6 officials, and Shion gets offended, resulting in Shion attacking Rikiga. In the end, Rat finds a picture of the man who named him, setting up the story for Book 3. Atsuko Asano and Hinoki Kino have done a fantastic job again. I feel that each book is going to get better and better. I predict that Rat’s and Shion’s bond will grow stronger and stronger as the series continues, despite Rat’s resistance to let Shion into his heart. I like the little bonus scenes between the characters and the drawings of the voice actors behind the scenes. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading manga and loves these characters. I can’t wait for the next one.
