Unique for help in selecting which lens to use

Looking at my other review it looks harsh. This book is so-so if your interest is the lenses themselves, as the title suggests. If your interest is how to select and use the huge range of Nikkor lenses to create meaningful photographs, then this book is unique and very helpful. Maybe a more descriptive title would be "How to Choose and Use Lenses from the Nikon System." With that title it's a solid 4 stars.Moose's book may be the only book that puts much of the folklore surrounding the practical use of these lenses in book form. Thanks again to Moose for the great work!

What a guy !

I often buy second-hand Nikon lenses thru KEH.COM but sometimes it's difficult to know exactly which model of lense is displayed on their shelves. With the Moose Peterson book, any doubt vanished ! If you have an F5, you must go to Moose website dedicated to that camera.

The standard reference on lenses for Nikon cameras

An accomplished nature photographer, B. "Moose" Peterson may know more about Nikon single-lens reflex photographic equipment (past and present) than anyone this side of Japan. In addition to a book on wildlife photography, Peterson has written several books on Nikon photo equipment. In this book, he provides basic information about 64 current Nikon lenses and 10 "oldies but goodies." He tells what types of photographers tend to favor which lenses... and why. He also gives clear and concise explanations of such lens features as Close Range Correction (CRC), Internal Focusing (IF) and Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass, and he explains what is "new" in the new Nikon AF-I lenses. At the beginning of each section (group of lenses), he gives "tricks of the trade" for using various types of lenses most effectively. A most useful concept he presents is that wide angle lenses are best used to show the relationship between various objects, people, etc... and telephotos are best used to isolate the subject from its surroundings. (This is not terribly different from the usual explanation of the functions of these lenses... but the nuance can make a considerable difference in your approach to taking pictures.) It would have been helpful if he had added the closest focusing distance to the information block about each lens. But this is a small criticism. I do not buy a Nikon lens without first seeing what Peterson has to say about it.
