Nightmares & Fairy Tales returns to the book's manga-inspired roots with two new retellings of classic horror stories and fairy tales. This issue features two stories inspired by Sleeping Beauty and H.P. Lovecraft's Shadow over Innsmouth.
Great, yet still lacks the initial oomph of the first 2 books

The 4th & final book of the Nightmares & Fairy Tales series shows a return to it's roots by once again adapting fairytale creatures & stories. The stories in this book include a sleeping beauty tale as well as a mermaid tale that takes it's roots not only from mer-tales, but also from H.P. Lovecraft. The first story takes place in the present day & includes Gwen as she meets a lively young girl who may or may not be a ghost. The second story takes place in the past, but doesn't really include Annabelle. It involves a freak show owner who exploits a beautiful mermaid in a jar for his own profit. The only thing that keeps her at bay is his making threats towards her baby. While I enjoyed these stories, they just didn't grab me the way the initial volumes did. The artwork is beautifully done & suits the stories, but they just don't grab me the way the first volumes did. Even so, this is definately something that indie comics fans will want to read. 4.5/5
