Book Overview

A wonderfully colourful and deeply poignant memoir of growing up in a 'single end' - one room in a Glasgow tenement - during and immediately after the Second World War. Although young Robert Douglas's life was blighted by the cruel if sporadic presence of his father, it was equally blessed by the love of his mother, Janet. While the story of their life together is in some ways very sad, it is also filled with humorous and happy memories. NIGHT SONG...

Night Song of the Last Tram

This book was recommended to me when I was in Northumbria last year on business. When I returned home to Seattle I ordered it. It is a beautiful yet unvarnished description of growing up in Maryhill. I spent part of my childhood there in the late 50's and will never forget it. A terrific read!

Night Song Of The Last Tram

This exquisite book was sent to me by a cousin-we were both born in Glasgow in the 1920's-1930's. I could only agree with the commentaries that are part of the book. It brings back many memories but only if you grew up in Glasgow. I would love to be in touch with the author just for a chit-chat. That might not be possible, I suppose. Privacy at work! David A. W.
