early book from an excellent author

Night Rhythms is overdone, but you can see the bones of a good story here. Quibbles first: as I said, it's overdone, and needs a good editing. Or maybe a ham-handed editor is responsible for this. Ice cream isn't just ice cream, it's a "cool dessert" (no, I'm not getting over that one any time soon). It sounds as if I'm dissing the whole book based on one phrase, but I'm not--that's just the best example of how the whole book is. There's a great story there, but for me, it kind of got lost under an avalanche of superfluous adjectives, adverbs, and descriptive passages. The story, though, was excellent. It's a reunion story, which I love anyway, and there are twists. Outsider returns to small town for her high school reunion where everyone thinks she's a huge success because of some embellishment from her friends. She's an author, sold her first book, but hasn't been able to sell another. So she encounters a whole host of reactions: from excitement and pride to envy and resentment. And there's the man she came back for: a rancher, whose life has been taking care of the ranch and his younger brothers and his psychologically ill mother after his father died. Both of them are harboring feelings for each other from the past, and both of them are afraid they're not good enough for the other and don't want to tie them down/cause them pain. This book's from 1997, and it's easy to see how a few years later she's become such a good author. I have her latest in my TBR pile.

This was my first book by this author. I really enjoyed the story. I will definitely read this author again.

Classic Love Story (Spicy too!)

Daniel and Meg both had a crush on one another in high school but were afraid to admit it. Meg moves to L.A. after graduation feeling she has something to prove to herself and Daniel lets her go. He believes she's destined for bigger and better things than he can provide. Daniel is sexy, selfless, uncomplicated, kind and strong. He takes over his family ranch and allows his brothers and sisters to go pursue their dreams (much like he did Meg) after his parents passing. When Meg returns for a HS reunion she is showered with adulation becuase of her status as a published author, Daniel cannot resist spending time with the only woman he has ever and will ever love. The two create sparks and are pulled by a sensual attraction neither can resist. The book is sweet with just the right amount of hot sex scenes to live up to Elda Minger's reputation. Highly recommended.

True love at its hottest

Everybody in the small Colorado town of Blue Spruce thinks that Meg Prescott is a successful writer with a lucrative film deal that lets her mingle with the rich and famous. However this is far from the truth. Meg hasn't sold her other two books and is beginning to think she may be nothing but a one book wonder. While attending her ten year reunion (a bitter fiasco when she discovers the bogus rumors circulating about her) Meg hooks up with Daniel Willett, the shy ranch hand whom she had a secret crush on (and who also inspired a character in her novel). Daniel also has had deep feelings for this talented woman (who he believes is too good for him) and the two share a night of passionate lovemaking made even hotter by the love they are unaware of sharing. Further complicating matters is that neither wants to spoil what they incorrectly assume is a fleeting affair. This is something far stronger and deeper than a one night stand. Watching this to lovebirds do the dance and expose their secrets and feelings was time well spent. I didn't want the book to end! My only quibble was that the subplots were left unresolved, small irritation considering the quality of chemistry between Meg and Daniel.Highly recommended.
