Basic poetic text and creative illuminous artwork.

Warm illustrations portraying the lights that can be seen at night. Great colors. Simple rhyming text with numbers 1-20 spelt out and in bold letters. Easy book for kids to count along with. From number 20 to number 50, 100, to 1000 to 1,000,000 twinkling stars. When children are learning to count, they begin counting everything. This is a terrific book to go along with your child learning to count from 1-20. After reading this book, look around the house with the child and ask them to count objects in the daytime, at night, out their window, while in the car, etc.

Counting in the dark

Every night before she goes to bed, a little girl counts... it's a great way to think about night - the friendly lights from the night light to the TVs in the houses across the street to lighthouses and beyond. The book first counts twenty objects in order, and then skips to 50, then 100, then 1000, and then 1,000,000 - which was very exciting for my son, who loves to count. Because I am not as prone to fantasy and like accurate facts, I didn't give it 5 stars because of a couple of licenses with his book, for example, the 15 towers in the sky are made of 10s of lights each, or million stars, when in reality you can only see a couple hundred at any one time.
