A fun, quick read

I really, really liked the second book in this series. While Lilith still wasn't what you would call a likable person (vamp) you did see more of her vulnerability and a lot of the whys she was the way she was. I loved the fast paced action in this book and could have easily read another 200 pages of this story. I really did not want it to end. I loved the intrigue and world building that Collins did. Quite impressive. If you are looking for depth in this series you'll be disappointed but if you want a fun, quick read, this will fill the bill nicely.

Vampire American Princesses: The Good, The Bad & The Debutantes

The Vamps are back and this time there's a whole lot more at stake for Lilith Todd and Cally Monture. Lilith knows the identity of the father Cally so desperately wants to know and she's willing to use that information to get what she wants. As vain and ruthless as ever, Lilith has decided to go against the strick taboos of vampire society and pursue a career in modeling as Lili Graves, allowing pictures of herself to be taken! When this secret double life is discovered by her father the consequences could be more than Lilith anticipated. Meanwhile, Cally has more than one problem of her own. Her mother has begun to suspect that Cally has been sneaking off to see a guy. When she mistakenly believes it to be an enemy of Cally's father she calls him in and Cally finally learns his identity. Thickening the plot is the realization that her relationship with Peter might get them both killed--by one another! As if this weren't enough trouble for both girls the upcoming Rauhnacht Grand Ball is coming up. Thirteen young ladies of Bathory will be introduced into vampire society at a debutante ball hosted by the creepy Count Orlock. Long black dresses, fathers and an escort the girl isn't romantically involved with are essential to attend. When Cally asks Jules, Lilith's promised, to be her escort the rivalry between the girls only heats up further. But maybe there's someone that could escort Lilith that can make Jules jealous and someone besides Lilith who doesn't want Cally there at all. Continuing the story begun with Vamps (#1 in the series), Nightlife is all about getting ready for the upcoming ball. Friendships get more and more complicated for both Cally and Lilith, adding to the tension and rivalry. Romances falter and sputter making for wicked tension. The mystery of Cally's father is resolved but only causes more trouble than it was worth. Peter and his vampire slayers make much less noise this time around but their scene is some pretty powerful action. Lilith's obsession with her beauty and being the center of attention puts her life at risk and weres (shapeshifters) are mentioned briefly as part of this secret world. A lot more fast paced, dangerous and fun than the first installment I thoroughly loved Nightlife. The label-dropping still annoys me but is much more overshadowed by interesting story and stronger plotlines this time around. I'm fast growing fond of the Orlocks and wish there'd been more said about the shapeshifters but I can see there being many books to follow to give us just that. Overall this one was a quick read, much more exciting and ended at just the right moment to bring we readers back for the third book, After Dark (due out this summer).

NIGHT LIFE is another guilty pleasure in the VAMPS series by Ms. Collins. The plot thickens in the second installment. Lilith Todd has learned the truth that Cally Monture seeks. Lilith knows who Cally's father is. After the two girls fought in the first book, they've managed to keep their distance at the beginning of NIGHT LIFE. Cally has become friends with the Maledetto friends as well as Melinda Mauvais, one of Lilith's ex-friends. The foursome gets along great, while Lilith is still trying to find a new BFF, since her previous one was staked not so long ago. Then, in one night, Cally's world changes. During school, she receives an invitation to the prestigious Rauhnacht Grand Ball. It's strictly for the Old Bloods. A New Blood wouldn't dare show up. She now has to find an escort for the Ball and find a killer black dress. Later that same night, she has to fight off Van Helsings that are attacking Melinda and her were-tiger friend. When she finally staggers home, she is stunned to find out her father has finally made an appearance. And Cally is shocked at who stands before her. Lilith's life is also on an exciting ride. Things with Jules are going through a rough patch. It doesn't help that she can't have him be her escort to the Ball. It's against the rules to attend with someone that you are dating. And now Lilith has become obsessed with being the next big model. But it gets tricky because vampires are to avoid mirrors and cameras. She takes the city and fashion industry by storm, but her dream may come crashing to a standstill before it ever really takes off if her father has anything to do with it. Cally and Lilith both are trying to create their own way, but it seems like their families are getting in the way. As the night of the Grand Ball draws closer, both girls will have decisions to make, and family obligations to attend to. NIGHT LIFE is a fine continuation of the VAMPS series. The plot moves quickly and the action and intrigue is just as exciting, if not more so, than the original novel. Things are heating up as the night is young at the Rauhnacht Grand Ball. Stay tuned for the next part...AFTER DARK, due out in July 2009. Reviewed by: Jaglvr

Great continuation and great cliffhanger

Night Life: A Vamps Novel (Book 2) What do you get when you mix Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or for you young ones, Twilight? You get the new book in the Vamps series by Nancy A. Collins entitled Night Life. Night Life is the follow up from her July 2008 release Vamps. Vamps follows characters Lilith Todd and Cally Monture; Lilith a vampire and Cally a vampire human hybrid, who are rivals at the vampire academy Bathory. By the end of the novel we find out they share a father. Night Life continues with them individually finding out they are demi-sisters, and the drama continues. Litlih wants to be a model, though her reflection is beginning to fade. Cally, after 15 years, finds out who her father is and learns she is blessed with a special gift, even for the vampire world. For all of you readers at a lost with the end of the Twilight Saga, The Vamps Novels are a good place to pick up. Teens will enjoy the couture fashion and beautiful vampires to obsess over. Sex, drugs and alcohol play a major part in these vampire teens lives so parents of the tween set might want to pass. At 234 pages long this novel is a quick and easy read. The books narration skips from character to character so you get a personal sense of what each character is going through, throughout the novel. The book describes in detail every designer dud these extremely rich vamp (short for "Vampire-American Princesses") teens consider buying or end up owning. Coming across this series has been a great pleasure, helping to satisfy my vampire craving, and with Night Life's amazing cliffhanger ending it will leave its readers thirsty for more. You can take a bit out of the third book in the series After Dark, it will be released in paperback on July 28, 2009. Night Life (Vamps, Book 2)

Sassy and Entertaining

I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first in the series. Book 1 had more of a Gossip Girl with Fangs feel to it, but this book was more along the lines of the Blue Bloods series. Twists and turns and betrayals at every corner, you never know which character to trust. With a wicked cliff-hanger to rival those of Rachel Caine's, I'll definitely be picking up the next book as soon as it hits the shelves.
