Night Life

Luna Wilder is a tough and independent cop who is working a tough city. She is also an Insoli (lone) werewolf. This makes things even harder as she is learning the ins and outs of being a werewolf day by day. Luna has been called into investigate some murders which all seem to be ritualistic in nature. Her investigation is sending Luna into some of the worst parts of her city. Dmitri Sandovsky is the pack leader of the Redbacks and he is also a serious suspect in the murders. Dmitri makes Luna mad in one way and also sends her wolf sense into overdrive in the total other way. Dmitri has his own reasons for wanting the murderer to be found and its not to help out the law or the irritating Luna. Luna and Dmitri end up working together as the investigation leads to the demon underworld. A demon has to be called into this world and all paths, and murders, are leading to a magician who is an expert in black magic. Both Luna and Dmitri are reluctant to do anything about the pull their wolves are feeling, however it turns out that it is that trust and blooming belief in the other that pulls them through the night the demon comes to call. Night Life was the opening story in the world of Nocturne City. I was taken pretty quickly with the trouble, independent and above all gutsy Luna. It seems like she was always on the outside looking in and it didn't change after she became a werewolf. Rather it got worse. Dmitri is a tough alpha of his pack with a chip on his shoulder concerning most things. I was not only intrigued with the world that Nocturne City exists in but also by the circling that Luna and Dmitri do with each other. I will say upfront that Luna and Dmitri do not have their happy ever after yet, however they have started a rough and tumble relationship and I personally can't wait for the next book in the series to come out so I can see just where that relationship goes. This couple will keep me on the hook until the end I have a feeling. Night Life is listed as a dark fantasy and it reminded me of a really well done urban fantasy. If you are looking for a series that is intriguing, fast paced and keeps you up late turning the pages, then you are looking for Night Life. Jo reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

An exhilarating read

This was a very high octane urban fantasy and paranormal adventure. Luna Wilder is an Insoli, a lone werewolf without a pack. She is also a Nocturne City detective. She is called to the scene of a disturbing murder where a young woman has been killed and her finger chopped off. Luna is further drawn into the investigation as woman after woman is found murdered and found in the same way, with their index finger missing. Her investigation leads her to Dmitri Sandovsky, pack leader for the red wolves. He was a known pimp for the first murdered prostitute, Lilia. He thinks Luna's trash, as all Insoli are viewed. She thinks he's the murderer. I liked this book very much. I liked the characters, Luna, Dmitri, and Luna's cousin Sunny. They are characters I look forward to reading more about in future books. It had great action scenes and the occasional touch of humor made this a very good book. I already have the next book in my wish list.

Great new author on the block!

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book since I saw it advertised somewhere months ago. After getting a sneak peek at this author's talents in "My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon" I was even more eager to get my hands on this book. I was not disappointed at all! Another great new author has come into the Urban Paranormal fold and I hope she is welcomed with open arms! Night Life is the first part in the 'Nocturne City' series and if the other books to come are anything like this debut I will be extremely happy. Luna is a great lead character and is as Hard as they come but also alone. She is an Insoli werewolf and a police detective but has no pack. All she has is her cousin Sunny and a few collegues from work who seem to like her. This story is fast paced, smart and dark. Think NYPD Blues but with werewolves and demons! I totally enjoyed this and can't wait for 'Pure Blood' out in August.

tense gritty police procedural urban fantasy

Nocturne City Police Detective Luna Wilder, a werewolf, leads the investigation into the mutilated murder of a prostitute. Luna knows no one besides her cares about some lowlife Jane Doe hooker even though dark magic was involved. After learning the victim's name is Lilia, Luna finds clues leading to were-biker Dmitri Sandovsky as the killer. When a second murder occurs similar to the first with dark magic again, Luna is stunned to find the son of the District Attorney at the crime scene. He being an untouchable and she being a werewolf leads to her suspension. However, a forced leave of absence does not prevent Luna from investigating because she knows the killer is not finished as there is more to these homicides than meets the eye. At the same time alpha werewolf Dmitri is fuming as he knew both dead females and he plans to kill their predator. He and Luna team up trying to track down the culprit. NIGHT LIFE is a tense gritty police procedural urban fantasy that grips the audience from the onset by insuring the paranormal species seem genuine; part of achieving this is an X-Man like prejudice that Luna receives from mortals. The investigation is entertaining as it provides the duality of chasing after a serial killer while also taking the reader on a tour of Nocturne City. Caitlin Kittredge provides a dark crime caper set in an urban center in which humans and supernaturals distrusting co-exist side by side. Harriet Klausner

Don't miss this one

Wow! After reading Kittredge's short story in the "My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon" book, I was really looking forward to this novel, and it did not disappoint. In a genre where so many first-person heroines are similar, Kittredge's Luna Wilder really stands out, as much for her weaknesses and insecurities as for her strengths. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but suffice it to say the chemistry between Luna and the hero crackles--he is extremely appealing--and the book is dark and funny, spooky and exciting, sexy and scary all at once. I started reading at 8 pm and didn't put it down until I'd finished, well past my bedtime. Caitlin Kittredge is a major new voice in urban fantasy. Don't miss her debut novel. (By the way, my husband, whose account this is, insists I make clear it isn't him talking about how sexy the hero is, it's me. Just so you know.)
