Another intrigueing mystery. Why was there a killer after Celia Viramontes. She is a close friend and co-worker of Emma Jensen Reese. Emma and Joe have finally straightened out their mystery. Celia is in trouble because of her father's defense of some young gang members who were involved in a teenage girl's death. It seems that Celia and Detective Daniel Rodriguez had been involved with each other when they were teenagers and for some reason Daniel had to leave his lover to take care of his twin brother. Sonia Sanchez was murdered during a gang-related initiation rite into the Cobras, she wanted to join a gang because her brother, Marco wouldn't let her join his gang. Marco swore vengence on the seven boys and the lawyer that got them off, and their families. Patricio Rodriguez has lived for years with the guilt that he couldn't prevent Sonia's death Maribel Sanchez tells Daniel that she is afraid of her sons and their tempers. Joe Lopez shows up once again - still looking for their sister. You will love Lola Ibarra, Daniel's senior detective partner. A very drool sense of humor. The story starts with a nasty smell that Celia found very irritating. At least she had the sense to call 911. And when Daniel shows up it is the start of the explanation of their love/hate relationship. She sure let her ego get the better of her. Loved Daniel's determination to protect Celia in spite of herself. [Oh, these women who think they can protect themselves.] Such idiots! The plot thickens with each death that is brought to light around St. Xavier and it keeps all involved on their toes. Definitely Recommended --m -- Darn good trilogy! Now onto Patricio's story in SHADOW GUARDIAN.
