This is a murder mystery that begins with the noisy re-union of two very crusty, wise-cracking old-timers who won't accept a coroner's verdict of suicide for the death of one of their old friends.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Old codgers, rough talking and acting yet almost loveable guys, lead the reader on a search for what really happened to their friend who supposedly committed suicide. This is definitely the best of Mike Danford's books.
Murder or Suicide?

Those of us who have lived and worked in Kansas like to think of it as without such things as murder and violence. This book quickly puts an end to that thought as we get caught up along with the two retirees who decide to look into the death of their friend. On the surface there appears to be no reason for suspicion. To the two, though, there is the underlying character of their friend who, they are sure, would not have killed himself. The reader's interest is held by the way they work together with, not in competition with, the police in tracking down evidence in a cross-country investigation which uncovers a number of surprises. The author provides us with a set of believable, if larger than life, characters with their own foibles and problems, which sometimes seem to hinder the investigation. These are not experienced investigators but friends who feel they understand their old friend and refuse to believe he could have acted in a manner so much out of character. They have the strength of character to follow up their convictions and, incidentally, the money and time to spend to follow through. I enjoyed following the heroes down the roads I had driven so many times.
