A good chronicle of the Springs and the Pikes Peak region

Marshall Sprague's book is a very good account of the history and times that have shaped Colorado Springs, Colorado and the Pikes Peak Region. The photographs included help bring the stories to life and recount many who came to the area, fell in love with the setting and climate, and then influenced the growth and development of the region. We give this book as a gift to newcomers to our community as a way of helping them understand the history of this special place.

The Classic

As a Colorado native, this is the book (along with Money Mountain for the early history of Cripple Creek and surrounding mining efforts) that we studied in school for our local history. It is the standard and anybody wanting to dig into the history of Colorado (Colorado Springs in particular) should start here. Although this may not be the end-all-be-all history, it is definitely the place to start.
