New Orleans then and now

Great book in great condition. I live about 100 miles from New Orleans and frequent the city often. I love the culture and the historic buildings. This book has photos of the many of the buildings that have become familiar to me in my visits. Not only are there pictures but the history of the buildings as well. I always wondered, now my questions are answered. Can't beat the price either.

Great book on the history of New Orleans

This is a great book on the history of New Orleans, with many photos not typcially seen in other volumes. It's a little wordy in the first section, but good historical facts are provided. (this section could have been broken up with a few of the photos contained in the rest of the book.) For anyone tracking family history in the NO area, this is an essential tool, as it provides so much information on a variety of aspects.

The Way It Was

If you're fascinated with New Orleans, whether you're from the city as I am or you've been taken with its spirit while only here on a visit, this book will satisfy your curiosity about its history with a conveniently brief written synopsis, and about its look through the 290 years of its existence with a monumentally thorough collection of pictures that the author, with truly amazing spadework, has somehow managed to dig up from both sides of the Atlantic. His spellings of some French names leave something to be desired, but that is the only drawback. I ran across it in the waiting room of a dentist's office and had to buy it. New Orleans has nothing in common with any other American city, and this book will go a long way to show anyone why.

New Orleans from the earliest times to 1970

Very interesting book with a lot of pictures, maps and illustrations, up to 1970. It includes history, arts, music, religion, etc. that all contributed to the specific charm of this very unusual American town. This book is even more interesting for a post 2005 reader, since the hurricane disaster took away precious lives, sites, and treasures.
