Comfortable memories

This book has been around for quite some time. But it is still as poignant today as it was then. It /is/ intended for a younger audience, so sentences are simplified. The author seems to normally be quite enthusiastic about their religion, but spirituality is only touched on lightly in the form of an encounter between two characters discussing why they should not be sad about who they are (Their "Creator" made them unique). The ending is fulfilling, even if it isn't the one expected by how the book is set up from the beginning. A classic children's bedtime story they will want read over again and again.

New Kid in Town a review by Andraya

"I'm lonely and homeless." If you like books that are adventurous, and a little sad, then the book New Kid in Town would be the book you're looking for by Janette Oke. Fuzzle was a skunk that was homeless and really lonely. Fuzzle looks for a home in a big forest. He tried to find a friend, but no one wanted to be his friend. One event that happened in the story was when Fuzzle was so embittered because he couldn't find a friend. Then he was going through a field looking for a home when he stopped and saw a little fawn with her mother. When Fuzzle came up to them he spoke, "May I be your friend?"The mother deer answered, "Certainly." So the mom let the little fawn play with the little skunk. Another scene I liked was the part when he was in the middle of a crisis; he discovered his "creator- given gift" that makes him the hero of the forest. The skunk was so embittered like the angry roar of a lion because he couldn't find a friend or home. Then when the skunk did find a friend he was so happy he felt like he had just won a million dollars.
