To keep the time in perspective, the Berlin Wall went up in the middle of the night on Aug. 13, 1961, and the Fall of the Berlin Wall was in 1989
A snippet of new filmmakers in a small band of time. Many I know and many I learned about in this book. I thought this was not one of my favorite times in German film, and there are a few films that I did not care for, but I was surprised by how many good and inventive films I appreciated without thinking “new.” That is because they are only new in this dated book.
The information is not just superficial; there are some black-and-white photos to support the information and let you see what you are missing.
The filmography helps place the correct film under the correct maker and in the correct chronological order. I found one of my favorites there, “Welt am Draht” (World on a Wire) 1973 two-part TV production. I have a copy and watch it periodically. I also have the remake “The Thirteenth Floor” (1999). I am surprised at how many films I have from Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The book it is based on is “Simulacron-3” by Daniel F. Galouye.
There is a selected bibliography. My eyes yearn for them all, and I intend to purchase a fraction of them.
The best book on the subject out there!

I actually have had the honor of meeting the editor and some of the film makers highlighted in this book. It's a fabulous account of the how and why behind German film makers.
