A thriller from beginning to end

Reviewed by Beverly Pechin for Reader Views (6/06) At first glance the average reader might comment "Wow, I'll never finish that!" as the over 400 pages stare at you, but within minutes you'll realize not only will you finish it, you'll be disappointed it wasn't longer. Rothermel somehow combines every reading genre imaginable into one. With the touching story of Nicole, the young and innocent small town Pennsylvania girl, falling in love with a big time rock star you see young love develop. But will the test of reality put an end to the once perfect love? As Nicole matures she begins to experience and realize who the man of her dreams really is and how things aren't always as perfect as they may have seemed. Add to this a tall, dark, handsome stranger that appears out of nowhere and suddenly you have mystery involved. Nicole's dreams of stardom begin to come true but at a price. Is the price worth it and will she survive all that's involved? She gets pulled into a world of espionage and mystery, falls in love with a mystery man who appears and disappears in her life and lives her life fully in the limelight. How can a girl this young and innocent, from a small town rural Pennsylvania town survive it all and still come out unscathed? A thriller from beginning to end it's simply a book that you won't want to put down. The vast amount of pages that may once scare you will suddenly become not nearly enough as you never want the story to end. Rothermel has a way with words that not only brings you into the action but holds your attention throughout. You will come to love or hate the characters and will find yourself hoping you have the answers as you turn the page. Can innocence survive the trials and tribulations of stardom and espionage? And will love prevail?

Intrigue and Rock and Roll

I discovered Nevermore? from this new author when I saw it was nominated for the IPPY for Best Romance of the Year - a very high honor for a first-time author. This book is going to be everyone's favorite beach book this year. It captures all the excitement of that late 1960's era, when poor boys from Liverpool made the scene. But there is a Cold War dominating the world and our groovy new heroine, Nikki, uses her travel as a rock and roll singer to engage in heart-stopping intrigue and espionage. Nikki is definitely the girl everyone wanted to be back then. There is romance here, and the character of Grant is very touchingly developed. But danger and romantic rescues make this more than a light romance. Ms. Rothermel has a special talent for action, relaying the tension and setting a scene so concisely that we experience it real time. I just love it when I discover a new author with such talent. We are seeing some of our favorite authors (James Patterson, Janet Evanovich and most recently Jennifer Crusie) dilute their writing by taking writing "partners". I believe the novels of real depth are now the first writings of new authors --written before they achieve celebrity. You will love Nevermore?.
