Captivating

I initially read this for a summer school reading projecting but since then I have read it again and again. The book follows Arn, a young Cambodian boy, as his hometown is overrun with Khmer Rouge (a radical communist party) and his journey as a child soldier thereafter. The dialogue reads simple, as if an actual child was telling you the story, but the words and topic weigh heavily on reader's mind. I recommend to anyone -- especially those in middle school and above -- because its simple enough to understand but the words carry so much emotion.
