This is Rosemoor's 25th Harlequin Intrigue, and she apparently decided to go all out for the occasion. The fourth book of her "McKenna Legacy" series many just be the best one yet--and one of her best Intrigues. The heroine, Laurel Newkirk, is looking for her boyfriend, who's mysteriously disappeared. She goes to the man's estranged family to see if they've seen him, only to be greeted by family members who doubt that she's his girlfriend. And for good reason. The man she thought was Donovon Wilde was really an impostor, something that becomes very clear when she comes face-to-face with the recluse. When his father is shot and the impostor seems like a likely bet as the responsible party, Laurel and Donovon have to join together to find out who the impostor was. What they're not counting on is their most unlikely attraction. The two main characters were very different, but both very sympathetic and likeable. Laurel has a tendency to be do-gooder, Donovon is estranged from the McKennas because he is his father's illegitimate son. Together, they find the kind of familial love that neither has really known before. The book features Rosemoor's usual large list of suspects, all of whom receive equal attention, and a lot of suspenseful moments along the way. The story is set around a wolf preserve, and Rosemoor has given the book a lot of authenticity to go with the mystery and romance. Though it could have been fleshed out a little more in places, the book succeeds in all areas: suspense, mystery, romance, and emotion. The first three books in the "McKenna Legacy" miniseries were "See Me in Your Dreams," "Tell Me No Lies," and "Touch Me in the Dark," and despite the strength of those books, this might just be my favorite yet. Whether you've read all of her books or this is the first, "Never Cry Wolf" won't fail to satisfy.
