Very in depth

There is a lot of info in this book. There is also a CD (if included with used copies) that has questions to help the user study for the networking+ exam. I used this book for a networking class. The book includes review questions and exercises at the end of each chapter to help you get the most of the material presented. Material includes chapters of TCP/IP, network security, Network operating systems, networking hardware, and other things. The text and drawn diagrams clearly explain things. You will not be sitting there wondering "what does that have to do with anything?" This book is probably best suited for someone with some networking knowledge, but a beginner could benefit from it as well. You need a book to study so you are prepared for the CompTia Networking+ test? Then do not pass up this book.

Good Material, Comprehensive

I used this book to study for the Net+ Certification Exam. It has everything that was covered in the exam. Good book; well written and organized. The exam is tough, I recommend reading the book cover to cover (except chapter 13 which doesn't seem relevant).

Great for a Novice

A must have for future reference. I advise anyone who takes a class where this is the required textbook, to buy this book. The book gives clear and precise examples that help any novice thoroughly understand the OSI model which is paramount to understanding computer networking.

Good Book

This book presents the material well, is informative, and includes mostly well written review questions at the end of each chapter. Also at the end of each chapter is a really helpful chapter review, after reading the book a second browsing will be required. My only gripes with the book are that there are no answers to the questions (online or in the appendix). To prepare for the Network+ exam I read this book, made notes while I read, reviewed the material a second time, and took several practice tests. I like the book so much that I've decided to keep it as a practical reference book. It has great instructions on most major NOS installs. Buy it, study it, and understand it.

Excellent

I read this book cover-to-cover and passed with 95%. It does a great job of covering the details of networking and TCP/IP. It has more information than what you'll need for Network+, but that just means it does a great job covering everything. I've only got two more exams to go before MCSE 2000, and I'm certain the networking foundation has helped out a lot.
