After a gripping beginning I expected things to move along smartly but this book isn't that kind of read. Frankly, after all the lazily written mysteries I've encountered lately from authors hitting their sixth or seventh book, this book ignited my interest and managed to keep it through the entire book. Thoughtfully written, horrifying yet hopeful, this story straight forwardly captures the cruelty of the killer while demonstrating the determination of the police to capture this pervert before he kills more children. The heroine Angela is a normal person who is just beginning her police career. Her efforts and empathy with Connie, the 13 year old who helps the police is believable and the police work is laid out so well, you feel you're there too. Really enjoyed this straight-forward mystery.
An unforgettable, mesmerizing thriller!

Readers will find Nemesis by Vincent Cobb to be a mesmerizing thriller that is captivating and unforgettable. Although a work of haunting fiction, the author obviously extensively researched the subject of paedophilia (pedophilia) before weaving facts with fiction to create a horrific tale of child molestation and murder that is both nerve-shattering and enthralling. I can say this about the research because I have counseled both victims and perpetrators of this crime and written a non-fiction book on the subject. The storyline, with its well-implemented twists and turns, unfolds in England where readers meet Angela Crossley at the Birmingham Central Police Station in Steelhouse Lane. She is a young policewoman who is introduced to a Mrs. Rowden by Detective Chief Inspector Templar and given an assignment that would impact her life forever. Mrs. Rowden is the mother of a thirteen-year-old daughter named Connie whom she describes as a psychic with a different kind of "gift." Connie experiences visions of incidents that are happening in real time. She is literally there with the characters but can do nothing but watch. Mrs. Rowden believes her daughter can help find Alice, a nine-year-old girl, who has been missing for three days. And so Angela dutifully (though skeptically) follows through on the assignment and visits young Connie who describes a vision which leads to the discovery of, not only the body of the missing girl, but also the bodies of other little girls. All victims had been sexually exploited and murdered by someone very sick--a psychopath. Sadly, Connie's mind then takes her into a place of darkness for several years, during which time the murderer is not caught. And then another little girl is kidnapped . . . Just who is this monster that preys on young children without conscience? According to Dr. Simmons, a psychiatrist/profiler, he is a sadistic, merciless offender: a mysoped. Before this particular offender is caught, years pass as Angela furthers her education and moves up in her law enforcement career. She befriends Connie, who has slowly escaped from the deep confines of her mental anguish; however, some memories that took her there appear to be buried too deeply and are too painful to recall. As her "real time" visions start again, mysteries from the past are slowly unraveled. Angela truly cares for Connie and is protective of the young psychic, realizing that the man in her visions fears her as much as she fears him. The murderer knows that Connie is there watching him as he kidnaps, rapes, and strangles the life from his victims. This madman must eliminate Connie before she leads authorities to him. Angela has a lover on the force whose his name is Jim. Though he is her superior at work, neither party allows the romance to interfere with their duties. They work together with others in law enforcement to solve this long-standing case, using the information provided by the profiler, their own hard
A Bone-Chilling Read

Chilled to the bone. It's the sort of feeling you get sometimes, like when you're walking in the woods and stumble across a headstone, or a skeleton, or a burial pit, a place where bodies are dumped unceremoniously and left to decompose. Or, it could describe the feeling you get just looking at the cover picture of Vincent Cobb's creepily twisted and superbly written new novel, Nemesis. It's about a pedophile who tortures and murders young girls without remorse, and about police Sergeant Angela Crossley's attempts to track him down and capture him, using the help of Connie Rowden, a young girl who sees the murders taking place in her psychic visions, but is powerless to stop them. The cover depicts an eerie ghostly face without pupils, a face that seems to stare into your soul. It serves to provide a hint of what's within the covers, a story that will stay with you and haunt you long after you finish reading it. A number of girls are disappearing seemingly without a trace. It's any parent's worst nightmare, that something horrible would happen to his/her children. Being the father of two children myself, a son and a daughter, I was drawn into the novel from the very beginning, and empathized with the pain the parents of the abducted girls must have felt. The sad truth is children of both sexes all too often get abducted, abused, and sometimes murdered, and it's often difficult in the extreme to bring their killers to justice, because it's hard to find enough evidence against them. This is the problem that Detective Chief Inspector Simon Templar has at the start of Nemesis. He's making little headway in the case of the missing "nine-year-old Alice Newton," who "had disappeared between her mother's house and the news agents," and whom it was feared "had been abducted." Though Templar is skeptical when he's approached by Sylvia Rowden, who claims her daughter Connie is psychic and has seen the crime taking place and might be able to help the police, he doesn't want to dismiss her story outright. Angela Crossley, who then is nineteen and a rookie, is the one Templar assigns to listen to Connie and see if there's any validity and value to her tale of having had a vision of Alice's murder. Little does Angela (Angie) know at the time that Connie's visions will affect lead the police to the murdered girl's final resting place, a pit in the woods, where she's found with the bodies of six other girls the sadistic pedophile has slaughtered in cold blood: "She's buried in the forest, the one near the old quarry. There's a kind of glade, with a disused workman's cottage. She's in a pit behind it. But it's very dark there, and, like I said, it's scary. I think there might be other bodies there as well. Alice wasn't the first one he's murdered." Templar wants more than that from Angela and Connie. Though Connie is understandably reluctant to lead the police to where the bodies are, and at first refuses to, Templar has Angie
Nemesis Will Leave You Speechless!

What a gripping story! Right from the prologue I was hooked. I was a little scared of getting into the book as it had to do with missing children. Being a mother of three children it was frightening to me. I went to the first chapter and I was hooked! The chapters move quickly. Vincent Cobb is a mastermind at writing. If you enjoy fiction-thrillers this book is for you. I have not read a thriller in years. Even if you are not into thrillers this book is for you! This truly is a very interesting story that keeps you wanting more. You feel like you know who the characters are. You hope for them. You want the mystery to be solved. You want the nightmares to end for Connie, the psychic young character. Do not miss this first book in the Angela Crossley series. I am still in awe of the story I just finished reading unfold before my very eyes. I cannot wait for the next book to be published!
