A Key Resource For The Bivocational Pastor

Anyone who serves as a bivocational pastor knows the challenges related to the ministry - you are still expected to do the visitations, attend the board meetings, lead outreach ministries, & preach effective and relevant sermons. For those who face these challenges, the Preachers Sourcebook would be a key resource for their personal library. For me, the Sourcebook is just that - a resource that helps me plan the entire worship service from the Call to Worship to the Benediction. Although on many occasions I have diverted slightly from the schedule as outlined in the book, I still find the sermon topics & related references good catalysts for meditation & prayer. I would strongly suggest adding the Preachers Sourcebook to your library. The value of its content far exceeds what is a very reasonable price. May God bless!

Excellent resource to help time-stressed preachers!

I've enjoyed these guides for years now. Morgan and his staff compile an annual complete with 52 full text sermons and another 104 outlines for you to utilize on Sunday evenings and midweek sermons if your church still uses a more traditional model. It also has several additional outlines for weddings, funeral, special days, holidays, and baptisms. Along with the material to help you formulate your own sermon, Morgan includes little stories from great leaders in the past and shares many experiences from his own ministry. I've considered this the best preacher's annual on the market for years. The only reason I've giving this four stars instead of five is that this year's annual DOES NOT include a CD for your computer. In the past, the CD has been included which allows you the ability to take the book with you in a portable format and you can "cut and paste" certain areas that you would like to use in your own messages. For the 2007 edition, Thomas Nelson decided to skip the CD. I purchased the book anyway because I still consider it the best of its kind but I certainly hope Thomas Nelson will reconsider and add the CD again in 2008.

Keeping The Pitcher Full

With the busy schedule that I have, it is a welcome relief to be able to cross the desert of dry ideas and find an oasis in Nelson's Annual Preacher's Sourcebook. The 2004 edition has a user friendly cd-rom that makes looking for topics or scripture references both fun and timely. Do you need bulletin ideas or devotional subjects? The Sourcebook provides all this and more. Nothing can replace serious study, but the Sourcebook can provide ministers with a safety net for those slow inspiration times and a refill when the pitcher runs dry.
