Nellie Oleson does not like living in Walnut Grove. It's dirty and dusty and full of poor farmers. One day a new girl, Laura Ingalls, comes to school. Laura's dress is too short, she doesn't wear shoes, and she lives out on the lonely prairie. But everyone wants to be Laura's friend. Nellie doesn't understand: If she's the prettiest and richest girl in Walnut Grove, shouldn't she be the most popular? Nellie will do anything to get Laura Ingalls out of her life, and one day her wish comes true. Something terrible does happen, but not just to Laura Ingalls--it happens to the entire town of Walnut Grove. Laura Ingalls Wilder's classic story On the Banks of Plum Creek introduced readers to Nellie Oleson. Now readers will see events unfold from Nellie's perspective in Nellie Oleson Meets Laura Ingalls , which is an enchanting and eye-opening look at Laura Ingalls's prairie foe.
My daughter and I have enjoyed reading most of the Little House books. This one is a little different because it is written more from Nellie's perspective. The book reveals a part of her life that one may not get from the other Little House books, or from the old TV show. Even though Nellie is still the same prissy, stuck-up, "rich" little girl, I couldn't help but feel sorry for her. If this book is accurate, her home-life was really rather sad. It was an interesting and different perspective on Nellie's life as a storekeeper's daughter.
A very interesting look at the life of Laura Ingalls foe Nellie Oleson.

This is such a wonderful book to look at the events of Laura Ingalls Wilder's "On the Banks of Plum Creek." There are so many wonderful events in this book and starting in chapter 1 seeing Laura's Pa walk into Olesons Mercantile, and Nellie's immediate dislike of him(which I don't agree with) and how we get to see Nellies character to people who don't have as much money as the Olesons do. It is also an interesting look into the other girls Laura Ingalls went to school with like Christy and Sandy Kennedy.. Even though we don't get to see our beloved Laura Ingalls until chapter 11, it is really good to get some back story of Nellie and how her life is at home. I give it 5 stars, because it has a feeling of the original "Little House" books and the rivalry between Laura and Nellie created in "On The Banks of Plum Creek" and still there when Nellie returns in "Little Town on the Prairie." This is a must read for all of us "Little House" and Laura Ingalls Wilder fans, and to have more adventures of the "Little House" series.
