Native American Art Book- Creek, Choctaw, and Seminole

I don't know a lot about Native American arts, but this book was a helpful introduction for me of some of the patterns of the southeastern tribes. The patterns are very easy to follow, if you are doing needlepoint or cross stitch. The author uses large, easy to read graphs. I also enjoyed seeing some examples and reading some of the history of the tribes. I found it helpful to see actual pictures of some items with the patterns so I could have an idea of the colors used and the context. The Seminole patterns were the most pleasing to me. I love their use of color. At first I did not think I would use any patterns for framed cross stitch pieces. However, there are a lot of beautiful, medallion style motifs you could do. It might be possible, provided you are a relatively experienced quilter or if you have a really good embroidery machine, to make quilt blocks of some of the designs, or embroider clothing. It appeared to me that the author really enjoyed putting this complition together, as she is also part Native American. I also found it sad that she was unsuccessful at getting examples of artwork from one particular tribe, which is now very rare (I think it's Chickasaw?). Some of the tribes represented are Seminole, Creek, and Choctaw. Overall, I've very happy to have this book. If I complete any of the designs in it, I will be sure to give the credit to the tribe from whom the piece came, and to this author who worked so creatively to pass something on to future generations about Native American arts.
