Nice book

Sent this to my daughter who is away out of state for college. She liked it.

Nick B. Herberger

I think this book "hit it out of the park" when it comes to giving it's readers a ton of information about the freshman year experience. The author's had an insiders perspective as students in the midst of it and do a great job recounting their experiences and drawing from those experiences practical applications for all. The freshman year in college is a big deal, a HUGE deal ... it is a transition that few parents and students are prepared for -- what I refer to as "The Perfect Storm". After working on campus in Student Life for many years I have seen how difficult this transition is first-hand. The Department of Education has shown that more that 1/3 of all new freshman will drop out before making it to their sophomore year and fewer than half of all new freshman will graduate from college. "Navigating Your Freshman Year" gives us some great "real-life" advice on how to weather the storm known as the Freshman Year in college! Review by: Nick B. Herberger author of "The Freshman 40: everything you need to know about your first forty days in college". Great gift from mom!

My mom got this book for me, so of course, I ignored it for a while. But then I actually picked it up and thought it was really helpful - some points the student authors make I didn't think about and I think will help me act like less of a dork when I am off to college in the fall.

Finally!

Finally, someone wrote a book about freshman year of college that is worth reading. It really covers all angles from academics to partying to roommates, etc. But what really works are all the quotes and stories by actual students mixed in. Every high school senior should read this.
