An invigorating read

This well-written and lively book is inspiring and will offer a fresh hope of the reality of true Christianity.

A clear and fun walk thru Scripture to see God's plan for us

Gary Best is one of the best communicators of the Kingdom of God today. He is intelligent, humorous, and communicates in a way that is relaxed and reaches us where we are at. We all look at the Bible through a lens. The lone critic of this book as of this writing is clear what his lens is. Gary is a pastor and leader in The Vineyard movement in Canada, and looks at Scripture thru a Vineyard lens. But rather than reading a lot of things into Scripture like most do, Gary takes Jesus at His word. His look at the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and their application today is clean and simple. Not only have I read this book, I also have had the privilege of hearing Gary teach on this book, and it was completely eye opening. You owe it to yourself to examine his look at God's plan for us!

So simple, yet so profound.

In a very simple and unassuming yet profound way, Best is able to articulate how the Holy Spirit longs to work through ordinary believers (the church) to transform lives and the world around us. One of the book's strengths is that Best sees himself as just that: an average Christian struggling to overcome unbelief, doubt, fear and self-consciousness, but in the end choosing to obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit and seeing God do amazing things. The book is chock full of stories that will make you laugh and cry and will encourage and challenge you to begin to step out in faith and risk being a fool for Christ. A great book for group study. My small group read it; it has encouraged them to be bolder, and now people are coming back each week with amazing stories! Thanks, Gary!

Learn to follow Jesus in His work!

I have had the privilege of learning from Gary Best personally as he unpacked the life and teaching of Jesus Christ, with practical application to ministry and life today. In this book, Gary gives us all a simple challenge: why not ask and allow God to work in us today as He did in Jesus' day? See Matthew 11:7 - 8 as possible today by the power of the same Holy Spirit that worked in Jesus and His disciples (as in Romans 8:11-17 and Ephesians 3:20) Gary shares examples from around the world, with a humble heart and wonder at what God has done through him and other frail people just like us. Most encouraging!

Ignore the Critics of this book - Check the Scriptures

The critics of the works of the kingdom being available today are putting God in a box - and that is poor exegesis. God is still dynamic in this world today, and He can do whatever He wants, whenever He wants to. Gary Best knows that God has chosen to work through His people - yes, even us today. Don't read the books the critic suggested. Read the Gospels, and John 14:12, then Acts. Then ask yourself - why would God not do the same today?
