his is a concise indexed book on Native American flags. The authors make great endeavor in covering this important topic. It covers from A to Z with a parade of United Native Nations on Turtle Island. The tribes are spread all over after President Andrew Jackson with Manifest Destiny. Each page covers a flag with their present location on the state map with a brief history how and where the tribe originated from. Flags are relatively modern in Native American tradition. However, the art, culture and philosophy are much ancient. Of interest are two flags which incorporate the Islam crescent moon and star in the color centerfold in historic Muscogee (Creek) Nation and Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. Who was the Moslem navigator to influence Native Americans? Columbus? Captain Cook? Ferdinand Magellan? Admiral Zhang He? This informative and authoritative handy reference is for researchers and scholars. It is an important book to know the tribes in ancient and modern, life and death, free and in reservation, east and west. Flags help reader understand what is dear and near in the culture. It is interesting to find out many tribes end their names in wa (hua) - Chippewa, Iowa, Ottowa, Kiowa, Tiwi, Tewa, Towas, Tonkawa, Tohewa, Tolowa. The flags include circle, square and triangle. On P.303, it included Mayan in the flag. This is an interesting book to read and own. Authors Peter and Carl do a great job!
